Job Corps is the most successful social program in United States history. Job Corps was founded in 1964 and is also the longest running government funded social program. Designed for disadvantaged youth from the ages of 16 to 24, trainees are given the education, vocation, and social skills needed to succeed in the job market.
At Job Corps, students who enroll earn a high school diploma or GED, learn a trade and get assistance with placement in the vocation or college of their choice. Trainees are paid a monthly allowance which they can use as they wish, as well as incentives for completing their education and/or vocation.
Eligibility
In order to join the Job Corps program you must be:
- 16 to 24 years old
- a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- able to meet income requirements
- willing and able to participate in an educational environment
